Backyard BBQ

Hello!

My name is Aspen, welcome to the Greenmunch blog, and the first post! The first post of a new blog is like a white canvas: it’s pretty daunting when you’re not sure what to paint. So, since I’m new to Greenmunch, I figured I would approach this brand new blog like I would a fresh canvas – just put paint on it, and see what happens.

A little bit about me – I’m a full time photographer, make up artist, writer, and foodie. I currently freelance for Where magazine, helping out with their Hot Dining section, as well as freelance as a make up artist for Global TV’s creative department. When I’m not doing either of those things, I’m either photographing a wedding, or saying yes to an awesome project… such as taking on the blog for Greenmunch!

I wanted to test out the eco-friendly products before I put my stamp of approval on them, so I brought the palm leaf dinner plates and the Aspenware wooden cutlery (serendipitous name, I know) to a friend’s barbeque the other night, and put the dinnerware through its paces.

I loved how the palm leaf plates withstood the juices from the steak, and how they have the faintest aroma of sweet grass. I also felt safe letting the babies at the party play with the eco-friendly forks and dishes, knowing that there are no nasty chemicals binding everything together.

All in all, the food was amazing, the clean up was a breeze, and we had a blast doing it.

There are a ton of ideas that we will explore together as we figure out how to add the convenience and esthetic appeal of Greenmunch items to our lives – from recipes to parties, bagged lunches to catering events, and this is just the beginning.

To get our recipe card collection rolling, here’s the fast and tasty salad that rocked our bbq the other night!

  • 1 package arugula
  • 2 plums thinly sliced
  • 2 handfuls trail mix (I like the kind with dried berries and pumpkin seeds)
  • balsamic vinegar
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Squeeze of an orange

Serves four, so bon apetit!
